The Full Story

Backyard Kids' Theater was founded in the spring of 2021. Our first production featured 14 theater-loving kids on the tennis court of a Mill Valley home during the height of Covid. Two months later, we performed Peter Pan with 8 amazing young performers in the backyard of a Sonoma home. Since then, we have moved into beautiful theater spaces, added lights, sound, costumes, and produced over 16 shows and counting and have shared the joy of musical theater with hundreds of Bay Area kids and their families.

The enthusiasm for our programming has affirmed our belief that Backyard Kids’ Theater offers something unique and valuable. Backyard Kids strives to meet each child at their own level, teach them new skills, and then cultivate these skills through encouragement and positivity. BKT sets very high expectations, but we create an organized environment where the kids are set up for success and are able to meet and exceed these expectations. The emphasis is always on the process, not the final production. However, the final production - what we refer to as “the cherry on top of the sundae” - shows that excellence can be achieved when kids are working together towards an ambitious goal while also having fun!
